Award Winning Wines
You can make them too!

Although the Winexpert kits are excellent, Dave still likes to experiment and see how they can be enhanced. He enjoys entering his wines in winemaking competitions and seeing the judges' comments.

Results from the 2014 WineMaker Magazine Competition!

From April 11 to 13, 2014, a grand total of 3,111 different wines were judged at the Burlington Hilton in Burlington, Vermont. This year's competition was again the largest wine competition of its kind in the world. The entries arrived from hobby winemakers throughout North America in all 50 American states and 6 Canadian provinces and as far away as Turkey and Australia. It continues to be the single largest and most diverse collection of hobby wines assembled annually under one roof.

Over the course of three days, experienced judging panels worked through 910 flights, examining each wine evaluating appearance, aroma, taste, aftertaste and overall impression. The wines were entered in 50 different categories and included an astonishing array of varietals and wine styles. Kit wines competed alongside fresh-grape entries in this blind tasting.

Dave was pleased to receive 3 Bronze medals this year.

2012 WineMaker International Amateur Wine Competition

Dave had fewer wines entered this year than usual, however he still received two bronze awards - one for his Vintner's Reserve Diablo Rojo (an excellent table wine) and one for his Small Lots Meritage 2010. Both entries were customized of course.

Since the WineMaker Magazine Conference this year was in Ithaca, NY Dave and Peg were able to attend the conference and enjoy the opportunity to listen to world class speakers at Cornell University. And talk to other winemakers from across North America, New Zealand and Australia.

Dave also took advantage of a pre-conference workshop on making wine from grapes. Although all of our On Premise winemaking is from concentrates, many of Dave's At Home winemaking customers are interested in making wine from juice or grapes as well. There's always something new to learn in the winemaking field! See some pictures.

2011 WineMaker International Amateur Wine Competition

From April 8 to 10, 2011 a total of 4,235 different wines were judged in the 2011 edition of the WineMaker International Amateur Wine Competition. These entries represented • 50 American State • 8 Canadian Provinces • 5 Countries

Dave's entries received two bronze awards - one for his World Vineyard Argentina Chardonnay Torrontes, 2010 and another for his customized Selection International French Gamay Nouveau 2010.

Dave was very pleased with his results even though he entered several other wines that just missed bronze. The Judges' comments gave top marks for colour and clarity of the wines "clear, bright, unusual colour" were descriptors used. Other comments were also encouraging and have given him some ideas for next year's competition.
